Supporting our community across Herefordshire
Hereford Lions Club brings local volunteers together to support people, organisations and good causes across Hereford and Herefordshire.
From practical support and community projects to activities that bring people together, our members have been serving the local community since 1960. Some projects have continued for decades, while others develop in response to changing local needs.
Community support from Hereford Lions Club
Community service has been at the heart of Hereford Lions Club for more than 65 years.
Our work has taken many forms. Sometimes that means providing practical help or equipment. At other times, it means supporting another local organisation, helping to fund a project or bringing people together through activities and events.
Here are some of the ways Hereford Lions Club has supported the community.
Disability equipment support
Hereford Lions Club has a range of disability and mobility aids which may be available to loan to local families when they need additional support for a family member.
We may also be able to accept suitable disability equipment that is no longer required so that it can be put to good use elsewhere.
Need equipment or have something to donate?
Please contact us to find out what is currently available or whether we can accept equipment you no longer need.
Message in a Bottle
Helping emergency services find vital information quickly
Lions Message in a Bottle is a simple scheme designed to help medical and emergency services when they are called to someone’s home.
Important personal and medical information is recorded on a special form and stored in a clearly identified container in an agreed location within the home, traditionally the fridge.
In an emergency, this can help attending professionals quickly find important information about the person they are assisting.
Hereford and Holland
Football Exchange
Building friendships through football
Young footballers from Herefordshire enjoy a special connection with the Netherlands through our long-running football exchange.
The exchange is about much more than football, it gives young people an opportunity to travel experience another culture and form friendships through sport.
Santa Sleigh
Bringing Father Christmas to the streets of Hereford
For generations of local families, the Hereford Lions Club Santa Sleigh has been a familiar sight in the run-up to Christmas.
Each December, Father Christmas takes his place aboard the brightly illuminated sleigh as Lions members accompany him through communities across Hereford and some of the surrounding villages.
The tradition began in 1975 and has become one of the club’s best-known community activities.
Supporting Hospital Radio
Hereford Lions Club has a long association with hospital radio in the city.
The club and the County Youth Service helped establish Hospital Radio in Hereford in 1972.
Over the years, Hereford Lions Club has continued to support the service, helping it reach not only hospital patients but also people receiving care at home.
It is another example of a community project that developed from a simple idea and went on to serve local people for many years.
Working with our local community
Hereford Lions Club cannot do everything alone. Much of our community work is made possible by working alongside local charities, voluntary organisations, schools, healthcare services, community groups, businesses and individuals.
If your organisation is working on a project that could benefit the local community, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Likewise, if you know of a local need where Hereford Lions Club may be able to help, please get in touch.
Help us support Herefordshire
Our community work is made possible by volunteers, supporters and everyone who attends our fundraising events.
Whether you would like to volunteer, enquire about membership, support an event or work with Hereford Lions Club on a community project, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
